Such is the Grace of God

Let me share with you something shocking that happened to me. Not so long ago I was watching a True Crime show and I could not help but notice pieces of myself in the perpetrator lady. I could not believe my eyes. This was proof that I have the potential of being my worst self and the only reason I have not gone that far is nothing but the grace of God.

Oxford languages defines grace in the Christian faith as, "the free and unmerited favour of God, as manifested in the salvation of sinners and bestowal of blessings". The grace all mankind receives from God is known as Common Grace. Matthew 5:45 reveals this beautifully, "... for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust”. Then finally all believers in Jesus Christ have been shown saving grace by God. My favourite passage on this is Ephesians 2:8, "for by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God."

No human being is outside the grace of God! Is it not beautiful? Even those who reject Him are under His grace. Leonard Ravenhill said, "Isn’t it amazing that God gives breath to a man who is going to blaspheme Him all day!" This includes us who have received His saving grace, we once were His enemies yet His common grace carried us – protecting, providing and not letting us perish, amazing.

"Isn’t it amazing that God gives breath to a man who is going to blaspheme Him all day!" - Leonard Ravenhill

It is easy to be fooled by the earthly success of others and confuse it with the saving grace of God. Success on earth does not mean a person is in the right standing with God. Therefore, we continuously need to pray for unbelievers to come to the knowledge of truth – to hear the Gospel and be saved. The only success worth attaining is a relationship with Jesus Christ as our Father and Lord over our lives.

Yours in Christ
